| | While potentially based on paleofelids or false saber-tooths of the Nimravidae family, to many readers, the Un-Named are indeed true-felines (as the books often refer to them) of their own evolutionary line. Some are as mysterious in origin as they are in their cognizant bearing. It is acceptable (if not requested) that those attending ItM continue to refer to them as cats (felines, felids, etc…) in order to remain in accordance with the novels, and for the sake of simplicity during Role Play.
| | While the Clan has adopted Un-Named felines in the past, such acceptance is rare, and not considered tradition. The Named still look upon those born outside of their lineage as enemies, and rightly so. If you wish to Role Play an Un-Named cat seeking placement within the Clan, it must be acknowledged and received by the Clan Leader, as it would have been in the books. No other felid may initiate an Un-Named cat.
When Creating Your Profile:
You are allowed to use any picture to illustrate your Un-Named cat. Tiger and Male Lion pictures may be limited in the future, should they become too prominant. There are dozens of feline breeds to choose from - feel free to explore them all! Don't forget, the image simply denotes appearance, not species, height, or weight.
When Naming Your Character:
Many of the Un-Named do not have titles, as they cannot understand such things. However, if your Clanless one is intelligent and carries a name, you may give him or her any label you desire. |
| | The term ‘Un-Named’ is a general idiom used to denote felines (or paleo-felids) without clan and/or sentiment. Therefore, they thrive in a limitless array of shapes and sizes, able to originate from any corner of the continent, if not the globe, traveling alone or in groups. They do not harbor the intellect to entertain names (hence their label), status, or even a sense of self. They are void of speech, comprehension, and emotion. The Un-Named merely ‘are‘. |
| Their existence is a dark, solitary torrent of struggle, an endless yawn of sunrises and sunsets unrealized. Native instinct is the only path they follow - one hunts to evade starvation, one mates to reproduce, one claims territory to survive. They fight to breathe - they retreat to endure another blind day. They cannot recognize love, do not comprehend hate. They will never feel the weight of guilt, nor the radiance of redemption. Their methods of communication are basic - consisting of body language and the powers of scent - reactions born of impulse, rather than rational intent. |
| This isolated, seemingly stunted pattern of thought is often reflected in the mute, bleakness portrayed in their vacant stares - they lack ‘the light in the eyes‘ that the Named so cherish, and for this reason, they are gazed upon with contempt by many of the Clan. They bear a criminal’s reputation, designated as cub-catchers, bone-eaters, scavengers and raiders. So loathed are they among the Named that intruders are attacked on sight. |
| Not all of the Unnamed subsist beneath a blanket of numb intuition. Others capable of speech and collective thought have been discovered among their silent, close-minded kin. The intensity of intelligence sheltered by these rare individuals varies greatly. Some are barely able to mutter little more than a few broken phrases, while a select few are ominously clever in tongue and wit - with a sharp ‘light in the eyes’ that could mimic if not outshine even the gifted stares of the Named themselves. The Clan regards these creatures with the same contempt as those born ‘dim‘ and will not hesitate to offer assault should they spy one loitering claimed ground.
